Abraham Flexner Master Educators Awards 2012

Four Anesthesiology faculty were awarded Abraham Flexner Master Educator Awards at the College of Medicine Academic Convocation and Awards Day on October 3, 2012 for diverse and significant contributions in teaching, leadership, innovation, evaluation and development.

Dr. Reddy receives honorary membership in AΩA

(February 13, 2012) Arundathi Reddy M.B.B.S. Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, was awarded an honorary membership in Alpha Omega Alpha by the University of Kentucky Medical Students.  The AOA Honor Medical Society is a professional medical organization which recognizes and advocates for excellence in scholarship and the highest ideals in the profession of medicine.

Abraham Flexner Master Educators Awards 2011

Out of 16 Abraham Flexner Master Educator Awards presented at the College of Medicine Academic Convocation and Awards Day (September 21, 2011), 5 were awarded to Anesthesiologists and 1 was directly related to an Anesthesiology rotation (Dr. Boral; Blood Bank Rotation).

Arundathi Reddy recipient of Surgery Faculty Teaching Awards

(March 21st, 2011) Arundathi Reddy, M.B.B.S., The Surgery Faculty Teaching Awards were established by the Department of Surgery to recognize outstanding contributions to the education of medical students and residents.  Arundathi Reddy, M.B.B.S., Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, is the recipient of a 2009-2010 Surgery faculty Teaching Award.

Eichhorn Recipient of National Patient Safety Award

(January 12, 2011) John H. Eichhorn, M.D. is being recognized for his work in improving the quality of anesthesia care and patient safety through the development and application of practice standards and protocols.  His contributions have led to dramatic and sustained reductions in catastrophic intra-operative anesthesia accidents, as well as improved anesthesia patient safety and quality of care overall.

Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky received Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) initial accreditation approval in April of 2010 for a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine. The fellowship was given three year accreditation (the maximum number of years for initial accreditation).

Fahy Recognized as Presidential Citation Recipient

(April 12, 2010) Brenda G. Fahy, M.D., professor of Anesthesiology was recently recognized as a SCCM 2010 Presidential Citation Recipient. This award recognizes Society of Critical Care Medicine members who have made extraordinary contributions of time, energy, and resources to SCCM during the previous year.

Eichhorn Receives Educational Achievement Award

(September 30, 2009) John H. Eichhorn, M.D., professor of Anesthesiology and Provost's Distinguished Service Professor, was recently awarded the 2009 Educational Achievement Award by the Kentucky Medical Association. This award is presented each year to a Kentucky physician who has made a significant contribution in medical education, including teaching, research and clinical application in medical practice.

Rebel Receives 3rd Place for Best Poster at SEA

(June 7, 2009) Dr. Annette Rebel's poster "How to Improve Knowledge in Transfusion Medicine, The Development of a Blood Bank Rotation for Anesthesiology Residents in the Clinical Base Year” received third place for best poster at the recent Society for Education in Anesthesia Spring Meeting.

Provost Honors Distinguished Service Professors

(April 22, 2009) University of Kentucky Provost Kumble Subbaswamy has appointed six UK professors as Provost's Distinguished Service Professors, effective January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2012. The award recognizes and honors professors for thier consistently high level of achievement in their contributions to their disciplines and the university.
